Sullia: The secretary of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) taluk unit, Guruprasad Panja was arrested by the police and later remanded to judicial custody by the court till November 13 in connection with a recent clash between two groups at Kashikatte in the pilgrim town of Subramanya.
Guruprasad who had sustained serious injuries to his head during the clash was admitted in a government hospital on October 25 and later was taken into custody by the Subrahmanya police along with seven others.
This comes after both sides registered complaints against each other at the Subramanya Police Station.
Based on a complaint by Chaitra Kundapur of the rival gang, a case with charges of rape attempt and dacoity attempt has been registered against Guruprasad and four others. Meanwhile, a murder attempt case has been registered against Chaitra by Guruprasad’s gang.
