Mangaluru: Media should not highlight the negative news, which harm the society. There will be lot of viewers, listeners and readers for it, but that is not what counts, " said Swami Ekagamyananda of Ramakrishna Mission, on Tuesday, March 12.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the decennial celebration of Radio Sarang 107.8 at Eric Mathias Hall in St Aloysius College.
He said, "due to the competitions between the media, negative news is gaining importance. Those who monitor the media should decide what programme should be presented to the people. Media should concentrate on spreading news which constructs the society and leave out the news that destructs the society," he said.
He said that he always listens to the programmes of Radio Sarang. "Usually radio programmes are more powerful than the visual media. In visual media, we need to concentrate on both viewing and listening, but, if we concentrate upon only listening, it reaches our mind without any interruption", he said.
Former MLA J R Lobo being the chief guest at the programme said that media should be very careful while spreading any information. "I have developed aversion towards media due to the recent development in media", he said.
Tulu film director and actor Devadas Kapikad also spoke on the occasion. Meanwhile, 'Sarang Disabled Artist's Fund' was launched by St Aloysius College Principal Fr Praveen Martis. In order to help the poor vendors, Radio Sarang presented umbrellas to the vendors on the same occasion. Fr Dionysius Vaz , Rector of St Aloysius college presided over the programme.
Radio Sarang Director Rev Fr Melwin Pinto welcomed the gathering. Programme director and RJ Abhishek Shetty compered the programme.
