Mangalore : A helmet virtually saved the life of a two-wheeler rider in a mishap near Yekkur on July 18, Thursday.
A person who was riding a brand new Honda Activa vehicle was knocked down by a speeding bus in a bid to overtake. The bike rider fell on to the road, but luckily his helmet saved him from suffering any head injuries. He however suffered injuries in his leg and was rushed to Omega Hospital.
Meanwhile , the speeding State Bank to Vittal express service bus named ‘Haddadiya’ hit the divider before coming to an abrupt halt. The driver then fled the scene but was chased and caught at the Yekkur playground. People reprimanded the driver Umar Sallathur for his rash driving. But the driver defended himself saying the bike rider took a sudden turn taking him unawares. Then people questioned why he fled the scene and the driver who seemed helpless tried to save himself by saying he was on fast.
