Heavy rains predicted for coastal districts today and tomorrow

Mangaluru: The coastal districts of Karnataka have been put on an orange alert by the IMD with regard to the Monsoon Rainfall. The three coastal districts – Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada – are likely to get heavy rainfall along with thunder and lightning on July 2 and 3. The evidence is already in place as it has been raining heavily since the early hours of July 2 in Mangalore.

Kadra in Uttara Kannada district received nine cm of rainfall, which was the highest for Wednesday in the entire state. Kundapur recorded five cm rainfall while Kollur and Karwar received four cm each.

The IMD says that wind velocity will be around 50 km per hour and fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea as it will be very rough with high waves. Air currents on the sea are causing heavy rainfall.

But interior Karnataka too will get heavy rain with districts like Haveri, Vijayapura, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Kolar, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, etc. likely to get heavy rain according to the IMD – they have issues a yellow alert for these districts.
