Heavy rains: DC declares holiday to schools and colleges on Aug 7

Mangaluru: As Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain for the next 48 hours, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has declared holiday for all schools and colleges on Wednesday, August 7.

Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil, in a press release informed that the decision was taken as IMA has announced ‘red alert’ for next 48 hours. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into sea for fishing during the next three days. Parents should not allow their children to go to low lying areas, beaches, river banks. All district and taluk level officials should be present at their work centre and take all appropriate measures to prevent any untoward incidents.

The DC has also instructed all nodal officers deployed at different areas to be alert and immediately respond to the distress calls of the public. Officials should be in touch with the district control room. Public can call toll free number 1077 for any issues related to natural calamities, the press release informed.
