Heavy downpour results in landslide, damage

Mangaluru: As the heavy downpour continues here, landslides and tree falls were reported in and around the district on Tuesday, July 23 as well.

Due to the incessant rains, a landslide occurred near the swimming pool of St. Aloysius College on Tuesday noon. However, no casualties were reported. Several houses were damaged due to wall collapse in different areas. A house at Kallamundkur village in Moodbidri belonging to Shivaram Poojary and another house at Kasba village in Vittal, belonging to Parvathi were damaged due to the rains.

Several houses in Kana, Boliar, Idya among other areas were damaged due to continuous rainfall. Traffic was also disrupted in many areas in city due to clogging of water.

The house of Nagesh Padu, the video journalist who lost his life for dengue, was also damaged as the landslide occurred near his house. His family members are worried now fearing such landslides in future also.

Due to the landslide on Adyapady Road near Bajpe, traffic movement was disrupted. However, mud was removed from the road and all precautionary measures taken to ensure that no landslides occur in that area.
