Mangaluru: After a 68-year-old woman from Guddekopla in Surathkal, who was being treated at the AJ Hospital in Kuntikan, tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital management has announced that it has been following the guidelines issued by the government and will continue to do so.

AJ Hospital Medical Director Dr Prashanth Marla, in a press release, informed that the woman was referred to them by a hospital in Surathkal which had diagnosed her with Cardiomyopathy and skin lesions on the leg on May 12. She was checked in the emergency ward and later moved to the ICU. She had an episode of low-grade fever and after treatment, her symptoms improved.

In accordance with the guidelines issued by the government, the woman’s throat swabs were sent to the Wenlock Hospital for testing on May 13. Her report came back positive for COVID-19 today.

Again, as per protocol, the patient was moved to the Wenlock Hospital in the afternoon after her results came back positive.

“Our hospital was closed for out-patient services and only from this Monday we restarted the OP services,” the press release said, listing the COVID protocols being followed at the hospital.

“- All patients and their relatives will be tested with thermal scanners at the entrance
-They need to compulsorily use face mask and sanitise their hands
-Later they will be again triaged by doctor/nurses where they need to complete COVID screening questionnaire
– Only if they qualify they enter the hospital with only one relative
– If there is fever they would be seen at dedicated fever clinic
– If any patient comes with near COVID symptoms or from the suspected area they will be admitted in isolation ward and swab sent for COVID testing
– As a protocol all healthcare workers who are in contact wear appropriate PPEs
– All these patients are managed in isolation with dedicated staff
– We follow strict no visitors policy,” read the release.
