Mangaluru: Pilikula Nisargadhama Society organised ‘Ati Koota’ at the premises of Guttu House, in Pilikula on Sunday, August 4.
The beauty of ‘Guttu House’ itself exposed the traditional culture of Tulunadu and organising ‘Ati Koota’ programme at Guttu House was meaningful. An exhibition of articles used in a bygone era was the main attraction at the ‘Ati Koota’ programme. Another highlight of the event was the traditional ‘Ati food fiesta’ organised by the members of women organisations of Mangaluru taluk. The speciality was that the food was prepared by the members of women organisation themselves and each family took up the responsibility of preparing an item.
Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian said the Tulu month of ‘Ati’ is known for a variety of special delicacies that meets nutritional and medicinal requirements of the season. The food usually consists of locally available vegetables and herbs, most of which are grown naturally. “This programme enables people to come together in the pretext of ‘Ati’ month and having food together as a family “, he informed.
Kotian regretted that modernisation is replacing the local rich culture. “However, we should not forget our culture and tradition. These programmes help us to stay in touch with our roots,” he said.
Over 25 traditional food items such as ‘garige’, ‘patrode’, ‘pelakayi gatti’, ‘gendada adye’, ‘manjal iretha adye’, ‘thajank ambade’, ‘aritha unde’, ‘kanile mungepadengi gasi’, ‘peltari sukka’ among others were served on the occasion.
A team of Yakshgana artists headed by Seetharama Kateel staged a Yakshagana programme ‘Srinivasa Kalyana’, which enthralled the audience.
Pilikula Bilogical Park Director Jayaprakash Bhandary, Executive Director Meghana, Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura among others were present .
