Mangaluru: The recently formed alumni association of Government First Grade College (GFGC), Byndoor had arranged for a ‘Guruvandana’ programme to felicitate the lecturers who served the college during the 1980s.
L Harish Sherigar, Secretary, Alumni Association, briefed the background and significance of organising this unique programme for honouring the mentors.
Praveenchandra Shetty, President of Alumni Forum, requested all the GFGC old students to join hands and become the members of the forum. He also said in his presidential address that this alumni connect by GFGC Byndoor facilitated reconnecting with classmates and expanding their professional network through this alumni-only environment. Integrating with the social networks and extending GFGC’s culture of helping and giving back, a vibrant ecosystem of the Alumni association network is created intended at working towards the development of the college.
Ramesh Bhat, Honorary Advisor, Alumni Association welcomed the gathering and introduced the all the lecturers who are going to be felicitated. Bhat, addressing the gathering, said that the alumni are the brand ambassadors of an institution and expressed pride about his alma-mater alumni for their strength and commitment. “I feel a sense of pride in saying that I am a part of the GFGC Alumni Family. Family is the place where we get a basic foundation. People judge us by the family we come from and hence I feel proud to be a member of this family and my mother institution,” he said.
Prof. Meli, Principal, GFGC, Byndoor, guest of honour, welcomed all the alumni to the college. He also appreciated the efforts of C A Ramananda Prabhu, along with L Harish, Mutthaiah S, Mohan Poojary, Praveenchandra Shetty, Ramesh Bhat in collaborating and bringing together all the alumni under one forum to organise this programme.
Prof. M N Hegde, who retired from service said that there is a dire need to strengthen the institution and appreciated the efforts of the old students in this direction and setting a new milestone in the history of GFGC Byndoor. He also further reiterated that the alumni association would work in co-ordination with the principal of the college and continuously support all the ongoing developmental activities of the college.
Prof. Satyanarayan Bhat, the Principal, GFC, Siddhanakatte while delivering his speech felt that he was immensely happy to be at Byndoor after a period of 30 years and never expect this day again.
Prof. Meli, the principal presided over the function. The faculty and the students GFGC Byndoor graced the occasion. CA N Ramananda Prabhu, Ramesh Bhatt, Praveenchandra Shetty, S Muthaiah, Mohan Pujari, Harish Sharigar, Rajashekar Hebbar, Shashidhar Hebbar, Asha Padiyar, Shailaja Prabhu, Savitha Aithal, Uma Hebbar, Veena Kamath, Kavitha Nayaka, Triveni Adiga, Fathima M Lobo, Muttaiah Poojary, Mohan Poojary and other old students were also present on the occasion.
Prof.Naveen, Kannada lecturer, compered the programme, Harish Sherigar gave the introduction, Ramesh Bhat Shiroor spoke on the significance of Guruvandana and CA N Ramananda Prabhu proposed a vote of thanks.
