Mangaluru: State minister for Food and Civil Service, UT Khader on March 15 announced that he has sent a proposal to the State Minister for Water Resources, MB Patil, seeking to sanction grant of Rs 50 lakhs to resolve the drinking water scarcity in his constituency in the forthcoming days.
Addressing the media at circuit house, Khader said that a few villages in his constituency have been facing scarcity of water during the summer. To solve the drinking water problem, a proposal has been sent to the government, he added.
The Gram Panchayath or the Municipal Council has to provide water in tanker to the village where the people are facing drinking water scarcity within the span of a week. If the water scarcity exceeds one week, the water supply engineer and Tahshildar has to give a report to the Deputy Commissioner in order to release funds for the provision of drinking water.

Khader also said that the first Indira canteen at the Hobli level will be inaugurated on March 23 in Ullal.
He also said that the state government is giving importance to the quality and quantity of the food served in the Indira Canteens. “The government will set up the ‘Electronic Weighing Machines’ in all the Indira Canteens in Dakshina Kannada and the same same will implemented throughout the state at a later stage,” he said.
The local administration should look after the drinking water facilities in the Indira Canteen. The canteens will is give first preference to handicaped individuals, elderly people and single ladies as they enter the canteen.
