Mangaluru: Universities should provide grace marks to those students who excel in sports, which will help them achieve greater heights in sports, said MLC Ivan D’Souza.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the district level Dasara Sports Meet at the Mangala Stadium on Tuesday, September 17. “Although the Dakshina Kannada district has excelled in education and other sectors, its performance in sports is not at the same level. Hence, there is a need to encourage students to concentrate on sports activities as well. If the universities provide grace marks, it will help students with a talent in sports to bloom at the national and international levels.”
Ivan also informed that he has already discussed this issue in the Council. “When compared to the other government departments, the department of sports avails very less facilities. There is a need to strengthen the sports department by earmarking more funds in the budget,” he added.
At the sports meet, hundreds of sportspersons from the entire district participated in various sporting events.
