Govt. to release ex-gratia of Rs 6 L for kin of boat tragedy victims: Minister Kota

Mangaluru: Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Inland Transport and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, on Wednesday, December 2, announced ex-gratia of Rs 6 lakhs per family of the victims of the recent fishing boat tragedy.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the Minister wrote, “As per the direction of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, a sum of Rs 6 lakhs each will be released as compensation to the kin of the boat tragedy victims. I will hold further discussions with the CM to release additional compensation to the families.”

It can be recalled that on Monday evening, a boat (named Shree Raksha) with 25 fishermen capsized off the coast of Ullal. A search mission was launched immediately after the incident came to light in the vicinity of the incident and 19 were rescued.

As per reports, of the six fisherment that went missing the bodies of four have been recovered so far. Three of the victims have been identified as Panduranga Suvarna and Preetham Suvarna, both residents of Bokkapatna, and Ansar from Bengre.

Two fishermen are still missing and a team of skilled divers of Tannirbhavi are engaged in the search operations.

Minister Kota, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty and others visited the Wenlock mortuary, where the bodies have been kept.
