Mangaluru: Senior JD(S) leader and MLC S L Bhoje Gowda, on Monday, June 22, urged the State Government not to reopen the schools hastily, arguing that it could cause a spike in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Bhoje Gowda said, “The Government should not take hasty decisions regarding the reopening of schools and also should not give in to any pressure in this regard. If the Government takes a hasty decision, it would resulted in an adverse impact upon the health of the students.”

Bhoje Gowda opined that the decision to conduct the SSLC examinations at this juncture is not correct. “The Government could have conducted the exams as per its previous schedule, as Covid-19 was only present in a few districts back then. But now, the virus has spread to the entire state and conducting exams in this situation is a huge task,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also alleged that State and Central Governments have failed to tackle the spread of Covid-19. “Though the Government promised compensation of Rs 3,000 to th ASHA workers, the funds ahve not yet been released. If there isn’t enough money, why did the government promise the compensation? Even the labourers and autorickshaw drivers have not been compensated so far,” he lamented.
