Mangaluru: Chikmagaluru district in-charge minister K. Abhayachandra Jain on Saturday said that the State Government has released Rs 50 lakh for the immediate repair of the Charmadi Ghat, which is bearing the brunt of heavy vehicles, after the closure of Shiradi Ghat.
After the inspection of Charmadi Ghat along with legislators and officials, Mr. Jain told reporters that the Charmadi Ghat will be temporarily widened to accommodate heavy traffic. He also said that the minister for Public Works H.C Mahadevappa would visit the Ghat within a week.
Jain blamed the officials for the traffic jams on the Charmadi Ghat, stating that they did not take any measures before letting in traffic.
Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A.B Ibrahim said that the administration would issue notification restricting the speed of vehicles to 40kmph and place huge mirrors at every curve. Besides, toilet and water facilities will also be made available, he added.
