Mangaluru: Minister for Minor Irrigation C S Puttaraju inspected the area where a project of a vented dam-cum-bridge would come up across Nethravathi river between Harekala and Adyarkatte and asked the consultancy team to furnish an estimation report within two months.
Addressing the reporters after inspecting the area at Harekala he said, ” the project will be undertaken by the minor irrigation department and the tender will be floated immediately after we get the estimate report from the consultancy team. There is a plan to complete the project within two years.”
Informing about the project, Puttaraju said, “the project intended to provide drinking water to areas including Ullall, Harekala among others. A total of Rs 174 crore earmarked for the construction of this vented dam-cum-bridge during Siddaramaiah government. As it is an important project, the present government headed by H D Kumaraswamy had also given administrative approval for the project. As this project prevents incursion of salt water into sweet water, the problem of drinking water will also be solved,” he informed.
Puttaraju also informed that the proposed project is the part of Pashchima Vahini project. ”Government has earmarked a total of Rs 1568 crore for the Pashcima Vahini project. Besides this vented dam-cum-bridge project, other 10 important projects will come up at Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada district. Around Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore will be spent on each project”, he said.
Proposed project minimizes the distance of 30 kms between Harekala and Adyar, Kannur
Minister for urban development and housing and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister UT Khader said, ”the proposed project connects Harekala, Adyar and Kannur and minimizes the distance between Harekala and Adyar by 30 km. As the place Adyar is surrounded by colleges and IT companies, maximum public will be benefited by this project”, he informed.
Leaders like N S Kareem, Haider Parthipady, Santhosh Kumar Asaigoli, Anitha, Musthafa Harekala among others were present.
