Mangaluru: The funeral ashes of Late George Fernandes were handed over by his brother Micheal Fernandes to Parish priest of Bejai Church Fr. Wilson Vitus D’Souza in its premise on Saturday, February 2.
Later, a prayer service in memory of George was held at the church. While condoling the demise of George, Principal of Lourdes Central School Fr. Robert D’Souza opined that the defence had become strong in the country now only because of the broad thinking of George Fernandes. “His contribution to the country was immense”, he said.
Micheal Fernandes recalling the days with his brother George said, “He rendered selfless service to the working class people. As George was the reason behind introducing the Konkan Railways, it is good to name a road which connects two important railway stations after Late George Fernandes”, he said.
Later, the ashes of George Fernandes were buried at the Bejai Church cemetery.
