Mangaluru: Sandeep Patil, who recently assumed charge as the Mangaluru Commissioner of Police has been taking many pedestrian-friendly decisions, in the city. The latest one is getting ‘zebra crossing’ at important circles painted.
The ‘zebra crossing’ in most of the junctions in the city have been there, however, it was erased at some circles. Hence, measures have been now taken to put fresh ‘zebra crossing’. Though vehicles should not halt on this zebra crossing, vehicle owners usually refuse to adhere to the traffic guidelines. Hence, pedestrians find it very difficult to cross the roads when the traffic lights signal vehicles to stop.
In order to prevent this and to make roads pedestrian-friendly, traffic police have been instructed by the commissioner of police to make sure that penalty is slammed on vehicles that stop on the ‘zebra crossing’ when traffic signal turns red.
It can be noted that Sandeep Patil has asked the traffic police to launch a drive on tinted glasses on cars too and accordingly were taken to remove the tint two days ago. As towing vehicles also started functioning in the city, the instances of vehicles being parked in ‘No Parking’ areas has seen a slight dip.
