Mangaluru: Four accused were arrested for assaulting a Public Development Officer (PDO) on Thursday, May 27. The arrested are Mohammed Idayathulla (25), Ahmed Basheer (30) and Abdul Siddique (33) from Farangipete, and Aboobakkar Siddique (26) from Kuthar. It must be noted that PDO Rajendra Shetty under the Mallur gram panchayat was assaulted by five persons on May 25 after he asked them to wear masks.
Mohammed Idayathulla has cases against him at Mangaluru rural, Mangaluru North, and Mangaluru South police stations. Ahmed Basheer has cases against him at Mangaluru Rural, Mangaluru North, and Mangaluru South police stations. One more accused named Mansoor Ali is yet to be arrested.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar stated, “The second wave of the pandemic has taken a serious turn. I urge everyone follow the guidelines. If any officer is being stopped from discharging his/her duties, the accused will be dealt seriously.”
