Mangaluru: The foundation laying ceremony for Rohan Corporation’s “City Square”, a commercial complex, was held on Friday, January 18, at 8.15 AM in Lalbagh. Rohan Corporation also celebrated its 25th anniversary on this occasion.
Three religious leaders- Fr. Ravi Santhosh Kamath, Fr. Wilson Vitus D’Souza and Manjanady Ahmed Musliar, blessed the foundation stones before they were laid.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the programme, the South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank President M N Rajendra Kumar said that the new commercial complex was coming up after the real estate market was hit by demonetisation. “Builder Rohan Monteiro has a good name in the real-estate business and I will extend my complete support to his future endeavours as well,” he said.
After releasing the brochure of the building, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Mangaluru is one of the cities chosen for the ‘Smart City’ project and development works have been taken up in the recent days in this regard. As Mangaluru is a smart city, the buildings which come up here should also be smart. The sketch of the building itself indicates that ‘City Square’ is smart,” he said.
CREDAI Chairman D B Mehta, in his address to the gathering, said, “Though there were hiccups after demonetisation, the situation has now changed. The real-estate business is currently at its peak and people are coming forward to invest here.” He then expressed his best wishes for the project.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Rohan Corporation Managing Director Rohan Monteiro said, “I have been in the real estate business for the last 25 years and I have experienced ups and downs throughout my career. Still, I have always and will continue to serve people by constructing layouts and apartments.”
A short documentary of the upcoming ‘City Square’ commercial complex was released by former MUDA chairman Suresh Ballal and was displayed to the gathering.
Former MLAs J R Lobo and Mohiudeen Bava, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Bhaskar K and chief-whip Shashidhar Hegde also spoke on the occasion and wished the project “success.”
The land owner and advocate Abdul Azeez and his wife Noor Jahan, MCC members Jayanthi Achar, Naveen D’Souza, Sabitha Misquith, building architect Peter Paul, Harikrishna Bantwal, K C Naik, Abdul Ravoof Puttige from Vishwas Builders, Haji S M Rasheed and Mansoor Ahmed were also present.
Senior journalist Manohar Prasad compeered the programme and Padmanabha Shetty proposed a vote of thanks.
