Foundation stone laid for Infosys Foundation Seva Bharati for Divyang

Mangaluru: A long pending dream of the parents of differently-abled children was fulfilled with Infosys Foundation and Seva Bharathi teaming up to set up the first-ever integrated permanent rehabilitation centre for the differently-abled. The upcoming centre, which will cost Rs 14 crores, will be located at ‘Madhava Vana’, Montepadavu in the Naringana village on the city’s outskirts.

The foundation stone for this project was laid on Friday at 10.30 AM in the presence of district-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, and other dignitaries. The ‘Infosys Foundation Seva Bharati for Divyang’ is being built on a six-acre piece if land under the CSR (corporate social responsibility) of Infosys Foundation. The integrated rehabilitation centre will include a normal school for special children, residential school, special educators training institute, skill development centre, and a separate hostel for differently-abled boys and girls.

The centre will provide physiotherapy, Yoga and medical care facilities. The two acres of land will have over 650 species of trees that are endemic to the Western Ghats. Members of the Aloka Foundation and Seva Bharati had launched the tree planting drive at the plot named `Madhava Vana’, and the eco-friendly centre will have solar panels, water recycling and a solid waste compost unit. The building is expected to be completed within eight months, sources added.

The work on infusing enthusiasm in those who cannot walk or live a life independently though difficult is a noble mission, District-in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary stressed, after laying the foundation stone for Infosys Foundation Seva Bharati Divyanga complex project in Montepadavu in Bantwal taluk, on the city’s outskirts. He said Seva Bharathi which has been serving differently-abled for nearly 28 years has joined hands with Infosys Foundation to build a permanent rehabilitation centre for the differently-abled.

Minister Poojary said Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murthy who donates crores for the betterment of the poor and those in disadvantage is a model woman. The Minister also promised that the government would build 10 staff quarters for teachers appointed to serve in the institution. “There can be no greater service than serving the differently-abled,” stressed RSS All India Kutumbha Prabodhana Convenor Kajampady Subrahmanya Bhat.

Giridhar Kamath serving as Trustee of Seva Bharathi said a two-acre plot with 650 trees that are endemic to the Western Ghats will be named after the land donor Dr Madhav Kamath. He said the G plus 2 storied building with 95,000 sq ft built-up area, Auditorium, dormitory among others will be completed by March 2022. The centre will have its solid waste management unit and water recycling unit.
