Former mayor Ashraf writes to Home Minister, SHRC alleging police harassment

Mangaluru: Alleging harassment by the Mangaluru police, former mayor K Ashraf has written a letters to the Home Minister and Human Rights Commission, seeking justice.

Ashraf has been receiving treatment at private hospital in the city, after he was injured in the recent violent protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) that happened in the city on December 19. It is said that he was injured in clash between police and protesters.

Ashraf, in his letter informed that in the pretext of inquiry and to videograph the hospital room, where he was receiving treatment, police barged into the room in the midnight of December 25. Though his cousin Wasim and his wife sought the reason for their midnight visit, they behaved rudely with them.

Hence, Ashraf sought strict action against the police claiming that police harassed him and his family members. As he is under treatment as an in-patient, the letter was sent through registered post to Home Minister, Human Rights Commission, IG and DGP and also to the Mangaluru East police station.
