Mangaluru: Life and times of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been made into a film, but here in the coastal belt of Karnataka respect has been paid to the PM in a rather unique way.
For the first time ever, a Yakshagana was staged and the storyline was based on the life of the PM.
Artists dresses in traditional Yakshagana attire took to stage at T V Raman Pai Hall on Sunday, January 5 and showed the journey of a simple boy from Gujarat who goes on to become the PM of the largest democracy of the world.
The artists of a women Yakshagana troupe “Gayathri Mahila Yakshagana Mandali, Theerthahalli” staged this Yakshagana. The story has been written by Jyothi Shastry and the songs are written by veteran Yakshagana artist M K Ramesh Acharya.
The story begins with the king of Heaven Devendra leading a happy life and sage Narada meets him in the heaven. Narada informs Devendra that people on earth have been mislead and are hence leading life of hatred and violence. With no room left for justice and righteousness on earth, Narada expresses his fear of earth being doomed.
After hearing out Narada, Devendra decides to delegate all his powers to a person who will take birth on earth and bring an end to all the problems of earth.
Thus a child with this divine power is born and he is named Narendra.
Then, the rule of Narendra Modi begins in India. The love of Modi for his mother, the friendship between Modi and Amit Shah, implementation of projects like demonetization, triple talaq, abrogation of provisions under Article 350, Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens (NRC) among others have also been shown in the Yakshagana.
The scene of celebration with saffron flag while celebrating the success of surgical strike at Balakot was the highlight of the Yakshagana.
The play has been received well by the audience.
