First aid plays vital role in saving one’s life- Dr Padmanabha Kamath

Mangaluru: The first aid-treatment plays a vital role in saving the life and it can be done even by a layman. Hence, giving tips to the general public about handling the emergency situation is very essential,” informed Head of Department of Cardiology at KMC Hospital Dr Padmanabha Kamath on Sunday, September 16.

He was addressing the gathering at a conference on medical emergencies and pre-hospital care organised at Town Hall, by a team of SAVIOR, which was formed to spread the message of pre-hospital care and to train people in emergency life support. Padmanabha Kamath said, ”SAVIOR is doing a great job by creating master trainers who will be well-versed in managing emergency life support and trauma situations. Time is very precious in order to save the life of one, who is in emergency conditions. There were plenty of incidents where patients succumbed owing to lack of timely treatment“, he said.

Cardiologist Dr Maneesh Rai who is also working for Savior team informed that the goal of the Savior campaign is to ensure that every citizen is educated in emergency life support and essential accident care. It is not a rocket science and the knowledge of handling the emergency situation can be done by all if they learn some basic tips. Savior team has trained over 200 people from teachers, home guards, traffic police, fire department, Asha workers and PHC doctors. We are planning to educate more people in the coming days“, he said.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Ramakrishna Rao announced all possible support from the health department of the district. ”I am ready to extend help for Savior group as it intended to save the life of others. Even after my retirement, I want to be a part of the savior team”, he said.

Meanwhile, Professor and Head in the Department of Community Medicine KMC Animesh Jain delivered a talk on disaster management. “Measures should be taken to involve children and make them aware about what to do and what not to do during the disaster. People should know common disaster in their area and prepare themselves to handle the situation“, he said.

Dr Megna Mukund, Associate Professor of Anaesthesiology, Yenapoya Medical College Mangaluru gave a talk on “Compression-only CPR and Automated External Defibrillators.

Dr Salfi PK, Consultant Emergency Medicine Indiana Hospital Mangaluru spoke on the topic “A trauma victim”.

Dr Rohan Monis, CAO of Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre spoke on “Road safety”.

Dr Raghavendra B S, Associate Professor of Neurology Father Muller Medical College Mangaluru threw light on “Stroke – Recognition and Emergency care”.

Dr Vimal Krishnan, Principal Secretary EMA India spoke on “Tranpsort Medicine”.

Mallangouda Patil, Senior Civil Judge and member secretary of District Legal Service Authority threw a light on the topic “I have helped someone – what’s the medical legal implications of it?”

CEO of Codecraft Technologies Dikshith Rai, Emergency Medicine Specialist in KMC Hospital Dr Jeedhu Radhakrishnan, Professor of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care in K S Hegde Medical Academy Dr. Raveendra, Head of Department of Community Medicine, KMC Dr Aminesh Jain among others were present.
