Mangaluru: FC Mangalore, the first Professional Football Academy in Dakshina Kannada with 3 Star rating by All India Football Federation was inaugurated today by Chief Guest N A Haris, Shantinagara MLA and President, Karnataka State Football Association. He lauded the effort of the President of the club Mr Farhaad Yenepoya for taking this initiative to develop the sport of Football and pledged all his support in this endeavor.
Mr I M Vijayan, Indian Football Legend, Arjuna Awardee, was received by the audience amidst thunderous applause. Mr Vijayan wished the club all success and spoke about his long association with the F C Technical Director, Biby Thomas. He appreciated the management of the Yenepoya University for providing one of the best maintained International standard turf ground in the country.
Mr Farhaad Yenepoya, President of the club shared the vision of the club to promote and nurture sporting talent from the grass root level. The website of the club was launched during the function and the Jersey of the I League was presented to Mr Murshid, Team Member of FC Mangalore U 18 team.
The Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in recognition of the work done by the Dakshina Kannada Football Association for the promotion of Football in the region and the state of Karnataka, honoured Mr D M Aslam, President, DKFA; Mr Vijay Suvarna, Vice President, Karnataka State Football Association and Mr Mohammed Hussain Bolar, Secretary, DKFA.
The programme was graced by the Pro Vice Chancellor Dr C V Raghuveer and Registrar Dr Gangadhar Somayaji along with Mr Biby Thomas, Technical Director of FC Mangalore and Mr Sujith, Club Manager. The U 18 I League team would be leaving for the first I League tournament on 6 October 2018.
The programme was organized in the Indoor auditorium of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and Ms Farha Mohammed, student of Yenepoya Medical College compered the programme.
