Fake voting: Three accused in police custody, polling officer booked

Bantwal: Pertaining to the case of attempt of fake voting in three polling booths during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, three accused have been arrested, here on Friday, April 20.

The three accused are Mohammad Shafi of Kalladka, Anwar and Shafiq from Kodange.

Also, a case of negligence of duty has been registered in the Bantwal Town Police Station against the polling officer.

Earlier, in the polling booth number 177 of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School an electorate named Majid Rahman from Kalladka had produced an Aadhar Card, during which the agent present in the booth had noticed that he was Mohammad Shafi and not Majid.

Immediately, the Bantwal police took the electorate into custody and filed a case against him for fake voting.

In polling booth number 122 of Kodange an electorate named 30-year-old Anwar had come to vote for the second time, during which the on duty police informed the higher authority. Based on the complaint, Anwar was taken into custody.

Also, accused named Shafiq was thoroughly checked by the police on duty at the polling booth number 123 of Kodange on element of doubt. Shafiq’s name was not present in the voter’s list either. He was also taken into custody.
