Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Ex-Servicemen’s Association (DKESA), in association with Shastavu Bhootanatheshwara Temple Trust and Lions Clubs International District 317 D, will be organising ‘Kargil Diwas’ commemoration ceremony by offering candle lights and floral homage to the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the true tradition of Indian Armed Forces, at the War Memorial in Kadri Hills on July 26 at around 6.30 PM.
DKESA President Vikram Datta told mediapersons at Patrika Bhavan on Tuesday, July 23 that the association has been paying homage to the brave soldiers every year and encouraging public participation in nation-building while remembering the sacrifices of the young soldiers. “In the morning, the Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL) will be organising an interaction session of school students and ex-servicemen at Lions Seva Mandir in Mallikatte, Kadri from 9 AM to 1.30 AM, to help the former inculcate the value of patriotism, discipline and sacrifices. There will also be a quiz competition, audio-video display of war scenes, felicitations to veteran soldiers, interactive group discussions, patriotic songs and dances”, he said.
Speaking on the Kargil war, Organising Committee Chairman Col. N S Bhandary said, “July 26, 1999, is an important day in the history of India, especially for the Indian forces. On this day, our valiant armed forces drove out Pakistan army when unauthorisedly occupied the Indian territory of Kargil, Drass, Tololing, Batalik and Turkok sectors in Kashmir. This war was an example of great courage, valour, comradeship, sacrifices and leadership on the part of Indian Armed Forces“, he said.
Association members Balakrishna, Capt. Deepak Adyanthaya among others were present.
