Mangaluru: Minister for Tourism CT Ravi has backed the decision of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to release compensation to police firing victims only if the two are proven innocent after a detailed probe.

It may be recalled that two persons had lost their lives in police firing in the city, when protest against Citizenship Amendment Act took a violent turn. Soon, the CM had said that Rs 10 lakh compensation will be provided to the family of the two victims, but on Wednesday, the CM said that the amount would be released only if the two are proven innocent and are not found guilty of rioting.

Addressing the media in the BJP district office on Thursday, December 26, Ravi said, “If it is found that the victims of police firing were accused of violence and riots in the CAA protest, then sanctioning compensation is out of question.”

Lashing out at the Congress party, the minister said, “When Article 370 was abrogated and Ayodhya title dispute final verdict was pronounced by the Supreme Court, the Congress had planned violence, but when that didn’t materialize, they did what it took to unleash violence in the name of CAA.

“Former minister U T Khader is the best example of it. He first provoked the people to resort to violence and now he has gone silent. The Congress party is trying to create turmoil in the state and across the country and destabilize both the state as well as the Central government”, he added.
