Mangaluru: A 23-year-old engineering student was killed after he was run over by a speeding pick-up vehicle at Valachil on Tuesday, March 26 at around 9 AM. The victim was riding a motorcycle when the accident took place.

The deceased has been identified as Thippanna, 4th-year student of Srinivas Engineering College, Valachil. Sources from Mangaluru Rural police station informed that Thippanna was hit by a speeding pick-up vehicle and thrown to the road. As the result, he sustained serious head injuries. Though he was rushed to the hospital, the doctors there declared him brought dead. ACP Manjunath Shetty when contacted, said that the victim was not wearing a helmet, due to which he sustained serious head injuries.

Sources informed that though police were present at the accident spot, they did not made any arrangement to shift the victim to the hospital immediately, which caused a delay in the treatment. They also alleged that police prevented him from shifting in a vehicle and forced the other students trying to help Thippanna, to wait until the ambulance arrives at the spot. Hence, a group of students from Srinivas Engineering College approached the Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil and submitted a memorandum to take action against the police, claiming that their inactiveness caused the death of victim Thippanna.

Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil when contacted told newskarnataka.com that he had already directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth to conduct an enquiry and file a report in this regard.
