Drunk traffic cop creates chaos on street in M’luru

Mangaluru: Drunk men and their banters often grab a lot of attention. However, it creates news when the drunk man is a traffic cop. Busy street of Mangalore witnessed some ‘comedy’ on street, when a traffic policeman was several sheets to the wind, leaving eyebrows raised. The incident took place near Bharath Mall, at Lalbhagh area on Wednesday, September 19.

The video of the drunk traffic cop, attached to Mangaluru West Traffic police station has gone viral and in the video he is seen staggering and walking on the middle of the road. While some passers by question him why he is drunk, he replies that he is not on duty. The passers by continue to question him as to why he was donning the uniform if he is on leave and the cop does not answer them. Soon, a pedestrian pulls the cop to the footpath from the road and the cop continues to wobble around.

It is learnt that the cop is an alcoholic was sent on a three month leave by the department. Surprisingly, it was on Wednesday that he rejoined duty, finished his shift and was soon found in an inebriated state at Lalbhag circle.

When contacted ACP Manjunath Shetty told NewsKarnataka that he was taken for medical examination. The incident will be reported to Commissioner of Police and suitable action will be taken later.
