Mangaluru: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted an international passenger at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday, April 19 and seized four gold bars weighing 349.80 gms concealed in his rectum. The value of these 24 carat gold bars are pegged at Rs 10.5 lac.
The accused, Chattanchal Abdul Razak, 49, hailing from Kasargod had flown to MIA from Dubai by Spice Jet flight SG-60 and on credible intelligence input, the DRI sleuths subjected Razak to examination, during which the accused revealed about concealing the contraband inside the rectum. Following this the contraband was safely removed with help from medical professionals and seized by the DRI sleuths under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The passenger, on interrogation admitted that he is a regular in this business and as revealed from his passport has been frequently landing at various airports like Mangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmadabad, Chennai, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Bangalore, Goa and Lucknow. He also revealed that he conceived this ingenious way of smuggling gold into the country by secreting it inside his rectum as he knew that the Customs Check at airports will concentrate mainly on baggage screening and frisking, but such acts largely go undetected.
