Mangaluru: Karnataka Government has conferred the Annual Kittur Rani Chennamma Award 2018-19 on Dr Shashikala Gurpur, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune. The award is in recognition of her contribution towards education and women empowerment.
The Karnataka government conferred this prestigious award as part of International Women’s Day celebrations on women achievers and institutions for their contribution towards women empowerment.
Dr Shashikala Gurpur hails from Golidadiguthu family of Gurupur in Mangalore. She graduated in law from Mangalore University in 1988 and is currently the Director of Symbiosis Law School and Dean of the Faculty of Law, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) based in Pune.
Dr Gurpur is the recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship as well as Legal Education Innovation Award of SILF-MILAT in 2011 and is a recipient of many such prestigious awards.
