Mangaluru: Retired vice chancellor of Hampi Kannada University Dr. B A Vivek released the book ‘Saavirada Sathyagalu” penned by Dr. Ganesh Amin Sankamar at a ceremony held at Town Hall here on Saturday, August 18.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. B A Vivek Rai said, “This valuable book by Ganesh Amin Sankamar’s gives us a detailed information about different forms of hymns such as ‘Madhu’, ‘Madipu’, ‘Bhira’, ‘Nudi’ and ‘Pardana’ used in Daiva (demi-god) worship. Amin has given an elaborate note on 35 Daivas worshipped by the people of Tulunadu. Anyone who wants to understand the Tulu culture and the essence of Daivaradhana and Daivas of Tulunadu should read this book.”
On the issue of constitutional status for Tulu language, Rai said that the work for the existence and continuation of Tulu language should move alongside the efforts to include the language in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution.
Rector of St. Aloysius Institutions, Fr. Dionysius Vaz praised the author for his invaluable contribution in documenting, preserving and propagating Tulu culture. Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr. Mohan M Alva presided in the programme.
On this occasion, folk artiste Baskar Bangera Gandakad and well-known TV anchor Naveen Shetty Edmur were honoured for their contribution to Tulu culture.
Dakshina Kannada Bunts’ Alias Nadavara Mathru Sangha Malady Ajith Kumar Rai, Akhila Bharatha Billava Union President Naveen Chandra Suvarana, Kuwait Billava Sangha President Raghu C Poojary and others were present.
