Mangaluru: The opposition leader in Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary has urged the state government to not give valuable land to Jindal company. He has cautioned of staging a protest if the government decided otherwise.
Addressing the reporters here on Sunday, June 2 he said, ” though the actual value of the land is around Rs two crore per acre, state government is planning to provide around 3,666 acres of land to Jindal company for the meagre amount of Rs 35 crore”.
Pointing out at the drought-like situation in coastal districts, Poojary said that the government has earmarked only Rs 200 crore for the drinking water needs of the district in the budget, despite demand for around Rs 1000 crore for the same purpose. “It shows that the chief minister does not have any concern over the coastal districts”, Poojary added.
Meanwhile, Poojary questioned why the government did not select presidents and vice presidents for the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) despite the elections having been held nearly eight months ago. The government should take immediate measures in this regard so as to strengthen the power of ULBs, he stressed.
