Mangaluru: Chief Minister Yediyurappa instructed the officials that compensation should not be denied to any flood victims in the pretext of legal complications and the stipulated compensation should be provided to the victims immediately.
Chairing the district level natural disaster management meeting at Sannidhi Hall in Dharmastala, on Monday, August 12, Yediyurappa informed that he had already declared Rs 10,000 as the immediate compensation for the flood victims, Rs 1 lakh compensation for partial damage of the houses and Rs 5 lakh compensation for the completely damaged houses of victims and Rs 5000 as the monthly house rent til the flood victims build their own houses. “As flood victims have already suffered a lot, officials should not deny these compensations citing legal hurdles, ” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Yediyurappa requested the officials not to go on leave until the grievances of the flood victims are properly addressed. “Every official should work round the clock to ensure no victim suffers to avail compensation from the government. As there may be chances of sudden spurt of diseases in coming days, health officials should educate the people about the precautionary measures they need to take to prevent the diseases. District administration can receive the help of medical colleges in this regard ”, he said.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik informed that as some shopkeepers in Bantwal taluk have been severely hit by the flood, they also should be considered to receive compensation from the government. When Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty informed about the landslip at Pachanady dumping yard and around 25 nearby houses are facing threat, Yediyurappa asked the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate measures to shift those 25 families to the safer locations and provide compensation to them. Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath demanded to erect retaining wall beside the river at Bengre, Bolar, Jeppinamogaru and Hoige Bazar areas claiming that residents of that region are threatened by flash floods.
Informing about the shortage of employees in the horticulture department, Beltangady MLA Hareesh Poonja informed that officials should be deployed at least on deputation in order to address the problems of the farmers.
Mangaluru MLA U T Khader, Sullia MLA Angara, Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, MLCs Hareesh Kumar, Ivan D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil, ZP CEO Selvamani R among others were present.
