Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U T Khader has asked police department not to harass general public in the pretext of taking precautionary measures during the upcoming election.
Speaking to the reporters at Circuit House on Wednesday, March 5, Khader said, usually during the time of the election, police summon rowdy sheeters to the nearby police stations and issue stern warnings. Though issuing a warning to habitual offenders is very necessary to conduct a peaceful election process, issuing summons to the one-time offender is meaningless. “Let the police not treat one time offenders like habitual offenders,” he said.
“If an offender was involved in crime or any type of illegal activities once long ago and has since then not been a party to any such illegal activities, then his name should be withdrawn from the rowdy list. If a person’s name features in ‘C’ list of rowdy-sheeters, then he should not be treated like habitual offenders,” said the Minister.
New taluk inauguration programme postponed again
Though Khader had informed two days ago that both Kadaba and Moodbidri taluks would be officially inaugurated on March 7, it has been again postponed to March 8. Khader informed that due to some inevitable reasons Minister for Revenue R V Deshpande would not be able to come on March 7. Hence, the date has been postponed now to March 8. Moodbidri Taluk will be inaugurated at around 2.30 pm, on that day and Kadaba taluk will be inaugurated at around 4.30 pm, he informed.
This is the sixth time that the inauguration of the two taluks has been cancelled.
