Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district on Monday, July 20, reported 89 new COVID-19 positive cases and five deaths as a result of the disease.
According to the bulletin released by the district administration, the five deceased are a 55-year-old man from Mangaluru (died on July 19), 63-year-old man Mangaluru (died on July 18), 42-year-old man from Belthangady (died on July 19), a 65-year-old man from Chikkamagaluru (died on July 19), and a 2-month-old baby boy from Bantwal (died on July 18).
The 2-month-old child was brought to a hospital on July 17 as he developed complications like breathing issues, vomiting, and fever 17 days after his birth. The infant’s death was considered a special case and a seven-member expert committee was constituted to probe the case. A report in this regard was submitted on July 20. His cause of death was reported as “multiorgan disfunction COVID-19 test being positive as an associated finding”.
Additionally, the bulletin states that there are a total of 3,685 positive cases in the district, of which 2,055 are active.
On a positive note, 57 people were discharged after making a full recovery. So far, 1,548 people have been discharged.
As many as 29,072 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19.
