Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district Muslim Federation has urged the religious leaders of Islam to issue a fatwa instructing the community not to consume beef that is illegally transported.

Citing the recent incident of illegal cattle transportation at Mundaje in Beltangady taluk, former mayor and Federation President K Ashraf said that though people from all religions indulge in illegal cattle transportation, the allegations are made on Muslim community alone. In order to allay the misunderstanding, the religious leaders should issue a fatwa and ask the Muslims to abstain from illegal cattle transporting and also consumption of such beef, he stressed.

Ashraf demanded setting up slaughterhouses in every taluk centre citing only single slaughterhouse in the whole district had led to illegal transportation of cattle.

Meanwhile, Ashraf also announced that if the government was for a legislation on cow slaughter ban, the Muslim Federation was ready to accept it.

Federation members like C M Musthafa, Mohammed Haneef, Siddik Thalapady, Abdul Jaleel among others were present.
