Mangaluru: A man from Ajjavar in the Sullia taluk tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday, taking the Dakshina Kannada district’s total to eight.
DK district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, in a press release, informed that the person arrived at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) from Dubai on March 18. As he did not show any symptoms of COVID-19 when he alighted at MIA, he was asked to remain in home quarantine.
When he developed a fever and cough, he was admitted to the Sullia Taluk hospital on March 28 and his throat swabs were sent for testing on March 30. His results, which arrived today, showed that he tested positive for COVID-19, she added.
The district administration received the results of a total of nine throat swab samples on Tuesday, wherein eight tested negative and one tested positive. A total of 17 throat swab samples were sent for test, and five persons have been admitted for observation in the district on Tuesday.
