Mangaluru: Close on the heels of former union minister B Janardhana Poojary’s statement on prime minister Narendra Modi, Dakshina Kannada district unit of Janata Dal (Secular) has complained to the Congress High Command urging them to ensure that veteran leaders refrain from making such statements in public.

Addressing the reporters here on Saturday, JDS district president Mohammed Kunhi informed that the JDS has joined hands with the Congress in order to prevent the BJP from assuming power.

However, Janardhana Poojary’s statement praising Narendra Modi and his opposition to the candidature of some of the Congress leaders has led to embarrassment not only to the Congress leaders but also to the JDS. “Hence, the Congress High Command should not allow senior leaders to deliver such an embarrassing statement in open public”, he said.

Mohammed Kunhi informed that the JDS leaders have already submitted a memorandum to the Congress-JDS coalition coordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao among other top leaders in this regard. “If we need to defeat the BJP party, it is very necessary for us to stay united,” he said.

“The JDS leaders under the leadership of former minister Amarnath Shetty have already started our election campaign throughout the district. People are fed up of the poor performance of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Hence, there is a bright opportunity to taste victory in both the JDS and the Congress in Mangaluru Lok Sabha constituency”, he said.

JDS leaders like Amarnath Shetty, M B Sadashiv, Akshith Suvarna, Susheel Noronha, Hyder Parthipady and Vasanth Poojary were present.
