Mangaluru: Refuting the allegations that the Dakshina Kannada district administration has completely failed in tackling the COVID situation, District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the numbers have spiked due to death of individuals due to other reasons too.

The Minister said that the influx of patients into the district is high owing to Wenlock hospital and seven other medical college hospitals functioning here. These hospitals attract large number of patients not just from other districts but also from other states.

The patients come here for treatment for various issues and they contract COVID-19 at the last stage. This death gets added to the COVId-19 fatalities of the district.

The Minister also said that there are plans to ensure that COVID treatment is provided free of cost in private hospitals too.

The coastal belt registered a total of 400 new corona positive cases on Saturday, of which 218 cases were seen in DK.

Speaking about the grave issue of sea erosion happening in Ullal and Karwar, Poojary said that he has already met the CM and discussed the issue and that the state government is committed to solving the sea erosion issue.
