Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district administration has announced the total number of voters as 16,97,417 for the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) election, on Wednesday, January 16.
Among them, the total number of male voters are 8,33,719 and female voters are 8,63,698. Speaking to the reporters, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Dr. S. Sasikanth Senthil informed that though the list of voters for the LS election has been released now, people can approach the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for addition and deletion of names from the list until the election commission declares the date of the election.
During the last assembly election, the number of the polling booth was 1790. In addition to that, a total of 71 new booths have been added and the total number of polling booths for LS election is now 1861. The number of the total voters during the last Assembly election was 16,98,868. But this time, the number of voters has slightly reduced to 16,97,417. The reason for the decrease in the number of voters is the deletion of names of the voters, Senthil said and added that the public can contact toll-free number 1950 for any information with regard to the addition and deletion of voters’ name or any information regarding election and polling booths.
National Voters’ Day on January 25
District-level national voters day programme will be celebrated at Town Hall on January 25, where voters ID card will be issued to the new voters. A total of 21,292 young voters have been added this time, Senthil informed.
