Differently abled need not run around for free housing: UTK

Mangaluru: “The differently abled need not go to panchayats under the housing scheme, but the government itself would take the list of differently-abled people from the district administration in order to provide homes to them at the free of cost”, informed Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister and Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader here on Wednesday, January 16.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a massive health camp meant for the differently abled and the senior citizens organised at the Balepuni Government School premises. Khader said, “If we want a healthy society, members residing in every house should be healthy. People should have compassion towards those who are from a poor financial background and differently abled. Everyone should extend their helping hand towards the differently abled”, he stressed.

Dr. M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University opined that the differently abled are not demanding compassion from anybody. They want the opportunity to lead a happy on their own. Hence, there is a need to provide an opportunity to them”, he informed.

A total of 25 beneficiaries were provided with wheelchairs, 35 with water-bed, 10 with walker and bed-pan on the same occasion.

Balepuni Gram Panchayat President Leelavathi presided over the programme. Zilla Panchayat President Meenakshi Shanthigod, Vice President Kasthuri Panja, Yenepoya University Vice Chancellor Dr. Vijay Kumar, Kanachur Medical College Vice President Abdul Rahman, MCF Chief Manager P Jayashankar Rai, Manager P J Rai, DGM Yogish, Taluk Panchayat President Chandrahas Karkera, members Hyder Kairangala, Naveen Padappadi, Prashanth Kajava, Ummar Pajeer, district cleanliness ambassador Sheena Shetty, Ayush Foundation President Dr. Gopalakrishna Nayak, Father Muller’s College Principal Dr. Shivaprasad, cancer expert Dr. Rohan, Women and Child Welfare Department Assistant Director Sundar Poojary among others were present. Dr. Deepa Prabhu delivered an introductory speech and ZP member Mamatha Gatti welcomed the gathering.
