Belthangady: Dharmasthala Netravathi River Cleanup Program and an awareness campaign on cleanliness among the devotees at the river bay was organised on Monday March 29 under the guidance of Virendra Hegde, the ‘Baduku kattona banni’ team, partnering various organizations in and around Ujire.

Water flow in rivers is decreasing due to groundwater fall in the Netravati River. Devotees who come to the river bay do not pay attention to cleanliness and leave behind trash, clothes, bathing essentials and other belongings. Pilgrims are instructed the same along with the help of loudspeakers.

Virender Hegde visited and congratulated the team leaders and volunteers on their efforts. D. Harshendra Kumar of Dharmasthala and Dr B. Yashoverma, Secretary, SDM Education Institute also visited.

After the inauguration, Tulu filmmaker Arvind Bolar distributed the cleaning equipments to the volunteer workers.
