Development of tourism, culture, waste management is priority: Minister CP Yogeshwara

Mangaluru: Minister of Tourism, Environment, and Biology C.P. Yogeshwara in the news conference, instructed The Deputy Commissioner to identify tourist places for tourism development in Dakshina Kannada district and submit a proposal to the Director, Tourism Department. 

The district tourism development committee has received the information on the proposals and the District Collector has been instructed to disposing of them for early disposing.

A total of 27 development works have been taken up by the Tourism Department in Dakshina Kannada District. Some of these works have to be sanctioned by administrative sanction. The rest of the works have been approved and the implementation agencies have been instructed to complete the work swiftly as it is at various stages. Most of the works have been completed.

Tourists visit the New Mangalore Port Trust on a cruise and are available for staying only one day. The proposal to extend the facility to 2-3 days has been discussed and a plan to introduce the surrounding districts to international tourists along with the participation of the tourism department.

International surfing competitions will be held at Sasithlu beach in the Dakshina Kannada district and attract tourists from all over the country and abroad. A grant of Rs.10.00 crores has been sanctioned by the Government for carrying out surfing school & clubhouse works. The District Collector has been instructed to start work swiftly with CRZ clearance.

Steps will be taken to develop the infrastructure required for tourists including connecting roads, toilets, high mask lights to Thelapadi, Panambur, Chitrapur, Suratkal, Someshwara, Ulla, Thannirubhavi beaches, on the lines of International Blue flag recognized Beaches like Padubidre and Kasarakodu.

Steps will be taken to provide necessary facilities to Mudubidre, popularly known as Jaina Kashi, and develop as a religious tourist circle to attract foreign and country-foreign tourists to Jain temples in the state.

The Department will also work to encourage local folk arts like Hulivesha, Yakshagana, Butakola, Kambala in collaboration with the Kannada and Culture Department in the future.

Surfing festivals and other coastal festivals will be encouraged.

The 320 km coastal beach of the State will be developed as a tourism circuit and an action plan will be prepared to attract tourists from all over the country and abroad.

The construction of the ferry jetty at St. Marys Island, Udupi has been sanctioned for Rs.420.00 lakhs and crz clearance is pending. The District Collector, Udupi district has been instructed to take up the said work swiftly.

Department of Environment and Biology:

Municipal Corporations, Urban Local Bodies, and Panchayats must adopt solid waste management and STP units. The authorities have been instructed to take steps to identify landfilling sites with the goal of the next 25 years.

Collecting garbage directly from the houses. Instructions have been issued to strictly follow the procedure for the scientific treatment of wet and dry waste.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board:

The mining of stones should be cleared by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and should have a C-form.

Action has been taken to stop the stone-mining and crushers from being carried out without obtaining the permission of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

Regional Senior Environmental Officers and other Environmental Officers should realize their responsibility and implement the Board’s laws. Similarly, visit and inspect district red industries once in 3 months.
Environmental authorities should take strict steps to prevent the river and seawater from being contaminated.

The 20 km length of The Gurupura backwater will be developed on the Alappy model of Kerala.

Eco-tourism is preferred to be developed in cold water well.

Under the udan and sagarmala scheme of the central government in a shipping yard, Heli tourism and seaplane will be developed. This will facilitate tourists visiting Lakshadweep and surrounding tourist destinations. This facility will be provided for three months a year.
