Mangaluru: Students at Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, run by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat have set a perfect example of self reliance by growing paddy required to prepare the midday meals, merely months after the state government cancelled the aid being granted to the school.

Not to be disheartened by the cancellation of the grants, the students took it upon themselves to ensure that they harvest the paddy needed for their midday meals. Towards this end they cultivated rice in about seven acres of land here and their toil has finally reaped results now with over 20 quintals of rice finally being harvested.

Expressing his happiness over the determined efforts of the students, Dr Kalladaka Bhat mentioned that the students have done what the government should have.

It may be recalled that the state government had in the month of August stopped the sanctions being granted to two schools – Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka, and Sri Devi Vidya Kendra, Punacha – both of which are being run by the trust led by RSS strongman Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat citing that the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997 (Rules 2002) does not permit a temple to adopt a private educational institute.

A huge controversy followed the incident with Prabhakar Bhat alleging that the act was done at the behest of district in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai who was indulging in “hate politics” and had stated that he would continue to feed the students rather than beg before authorities to reverse the order.

An online campaign, Bhiksham Dehi launched to help the schools too received massive response with funds pouring in for these schools.

Meanwhile the school management has decided to continue with cultivation of rice.
