Mangaluru: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union government’s demonetisation completing two years, the Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee staged a protest in front of its office on Friday, November 9, highlighting the miseries of the nation post the move.

Addressing the protesters former minister B Ramanatha Rai said, “The decision of demonetisation has destroyed millions of lives and ruined thousands of India’s small businesses. Though Modi government has promised eradication of black money stashing, no such miracle has happened after demonetisation. Instead, many poor people suffered a lot and the owners of the corporate companies did not face any problems”, he said.

Opposing another decision of merging Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank and Bank of Baroda, Rai opined it would not help anyone. Though government is citing the burden of Non-Performing Asset (NPA), the government is not taking any action against Vijay Mallya and Neerav Modi who have cheated banks to the tune of Rs 9300 Crore and Rs 13000 Crore respectively. Merging a bank with other banks will not be a solution to the NPA issue”, he said.

Dakshina Kannada district Congress President and MLC Harish Kumar said Indian economy is yet to recover from the disaster imposed on our economy and people by” Modi. Though the decision of demonetisation was taken to unearth lakhs of crores of rupees of black money and end corruption, now it has been proven that the move was futile”, he said.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLA J R Lobo, former mayor Kavitha Sanil, zilla panchayat member Mamatha Gatti among others were present.
