Mangaluru: Condemning the delay in the completion of the flyover works at Pumpwell and Thokkottu, `Pumpwell Flyover Agitation Committee` staged a huge protest at Pumpwell circle and urged to speed up the work on Monday, October 8.
The protesters highlighted the problems pertained to delay in completion of flyover works and alleged that the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and elected representatives do not bother about the development works. CITU district secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal addressing the protesters said, “though the work on the flyover at Pumpwell was started eight years ago, it has not been completed so far. Incomplete flyover work and pathetic condition of the nearby roads has led to several fatal accidents. Though the NHAI has set a deadline for the completion of work and assured of completing the work within the deadline, it has missed several such deadlines“, he said.
Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) state president Muneer Katipalla said,“though the flyover has not been completed even after eight years, the NHAI has been collecting toll in four places between the stretch of Talapady and Kundapur. It is the clear violation of guidelines on collecting toll. Though it was said that flyover would be set up at Nanthoor also, it has not materialised so far due to some technical reasons. Why the elected representatives do not bother about the safety of commuters?“he questioned and urged the authorities to speed up the work and cautioned of intensifying the protest in the next coming days.
Hundreds of leaders from various organisations took part in the protest and urged to speed up the work.
