Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has directed cable TV operators not to charge more than the prescribed rate of television channels and warned of taking action if anyone violates instructions.
Presiding over district-level maintenance committee meeting of Cable Television Network Act, she said that operators must give receipt to the public for the monthly rent paid and also for their initial deposit. Cable operators should register at post office in their respective area. If any cable operators functions without the registration, action will be taken against them, she said.
Sindhu also informed that a district level public grievances cell has been opened, wherein the public can complain if they have any complaints over the programmes or advertisements being telecast. All television channels and cable operators must keep documents for all the programmes they have telecast and they should be ready to furnish it as and when required.
A total of 127 registered cable operators are functioning in Dakshina Kannada district.
