Mangaluru: The City police team has emerged as the winner and the `Deputy Commissioner (DC) 11` team the bagged runners-up in the Brand Mangaluru Friendship Cricket tournament, held at Sahyadri College Ground in Adyar on Tuesday, October 2.
The tournament was organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association, Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust. A total of six teams have participated in the tournament in which DC 11 and City Police team entered the finals. During the final match, DC 11 team secured 26 runs in five overs, losing nine wickets and set a target of 27 runs to win. However, City Police team won the match by scoring 27 runs in just three overs after losing three wickets.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Dheeraj of the Journalists Association team bagged the best batsman award and Karunakar of ‘DC 11` team emerged as the best bowler in the tournament. Ranjan of City police team got the man of the match award and another player of city police team Rohith secured man of the series award. Meanwhile, Dheeraj of journalists’ team received a special award from `Suddi Bidugade` as he hit the maximum number of sixes in the match.
Mangaluru Commissioner of Police T R Suresh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Uma Prashanth, Sahyadri Group of Institutions Chairman Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Dakshina Kannada District Journalists Association President Srinivas Indaje, former international athlete Suneel Shetty among others were present.
