COVID-19 lockdown: Mass marriage programme ‘Saptapadi’ postponed

Mangaluru: The first phase of Muzrai minister Kota Srinivas Poojary’s flagship mass marriage programme, ‘Saptapadi’ has been postponed owing to the COVID-19 lockdown. It was scheduled to be held on April 26.

As it was the flagship programme of the state government, the first phase of the mass marriage was scheduled on April 26 and the second phase on May 24.

Over 1,000 ‘A’ grade temples were identified by the state for this purpose. Over 4,500 applications were received from beneficiaries of the mass marriage and over 2,000 applications were sent to the temple authorities by the beneficiaries with the essential documents.

Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary informed that the first phase of the mass marriage programme has been postponed after consultations with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. The new date will be decided later.
